The small Scottish village of Collin, on Lochar Water, is situated between Dumfries and Gretna. Although the Dumfries Racecourse held its final meeting on Wednesday 13th October 1847, within a year hunters and hounds were introduced into the area by Joe Graham.  It was 5 years later that the first race meeting organised by the Hunt Committee took place at Leafield on 8th April 1853, and afterwards at Dalton and Lockerbie until 1874. It then transferred its interest to Collin, 4 miles from Dumfries, from 1875 to 1893 before moving on to Carnsalloch. The course was on the estates of Sir A Grierson and Mr Jardine over good hunting ground, although the water jump was challenging because of the poor landing area after the jump. The first meeting at this course was staged on Tuesday 30th March 1875, continuing for 18 years. The programme at the inaugural meeting consisted of the Dumfriesshire Hunt Cup, the Hunt Purse, the Open Hunters’ Stakes and the Dumfries Burgh Stakes. The meetings were popular and well supported. The main race on Tuesday 20th April 1886, the Dumfriesshire Hunt Cup, saw Mr W B Jardine’s Golden Fleece, at the prohibitive odds of 1/3, defeat Lina and Ned. At the meeting on Saturday 9th April 1892 the opening Selling Steeplechase Plate saw Earl Roman, for Mr J Wallace-Haigh, defeat Mr Salkelb’s Lady Ethel. The feature race, the Dumfriesshire Hunt Cup, was won by Meadow Queen. The final meeting at this venue was on April 1893.  Racing organised by the Hunt Committee continued at a number of venues until its final meeting at Justinlees in 1914.

Whilst there was a single meeting held on Tuesday 1st April 1924, the area still to this day holds successful point to point meetings at Lockerbie.
